Lincoln has been struggling to find its own niche in the highly competitive luxury market, but that’s all about to change. Ford has been investing in its luxury brand and hopes to have exciting all-new models hit the road soon. In the meantime, Lincoln is showing off its updated design language through its refreshed 2013 MKS sedan, which has just been unveiled at the LA Auto Show.

Due to arrive in showrooms this spring, the new MKS features an updated grille, hood, front fenders, HID headlamps, front fascia, decklid, rear fascia, LED tail lamps and exhaust tips. Even the sedan’s 19- and 20-inch aluminum wheels have been revised to provide a sleeker look for 2013.

Changes to Lincoln’s flagship sedan aren’t just skin-deep either. Its 3.7-liter V6 engine now produces 300 horsepower — an improvement of 26 hp. Despite a big bump in power, it’s actually more fuel efficient than the current model and will achieve an estimated 19 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The available EcoBoost 3.5-liter engine will produce 355 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, same as the current unit.

In addition to some powertrain tweaks, engineers have also updated sedan’s suspension. For 2013, the MKS receives Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD), which can enact changes at a hair-raising clip of 20 times per second. Lincoln says this real-time system will deliver improved handling and a more engaging ride. Drivers will also be able to choose from Normal, Sport and Comfort driving modes at the press of a button.

Inside, there aren’t too many changes. However, the MKS will feature the latest version of MyLincoln Touch. Take a closer look at the new sedan via the video and gallery below.
